The Local Service District in Black Duck Cove on the Northern Peninsula does not have anything good to say about the owners of their fish plant, which burned down last year. And they are against seeing the company buy the plant in St. Anthony.
Royal Greenland, a Dutch national, has made no significant move to try to re-establish a plant in Black Duck Cove, but it has offered to purchase the plant in St. Anthony, which is owned by St. Anthony Seafoods and Clearwater.
An independent panel tasked with safeguarding competitiveness in the fishery is taking a closer look at a proposal by a multinational to acquire the fish plant in St. Anthony and all the operations of Quinlan Brothers.
Millie Dredge, a member of the local service district for Black Duck Cove, says workers had not gotten a lot of work after Royal Greenland took over a few years ago.
She wants the company to relinquish the land if it has no intention of rebuilding. The community hopes another company steps in to establish a plant.
She doesn’t like how the company has operated in her community.
