Police in Gander, Wednesday night, stopped a driver whose licence had been suspended, but ended up charging him with a lot more than just the usual assortment of Highway Traffic Act infractions.
A person told the RCMP that their vehicle had been taken without consent. They located the vehicle on Magee Road and charged a 25-year-old man with drugs and weapons offenses.
RCMP noticed a knife clipped onto the inside of the man’s front pants pocket. As they were removing it, police say a baggie of suspected cocaine came out of his pocket. A deeper search of the vehicle yielded 22 grams of cocaine and more than $2,000 in cash.
The man, who faces charges of trafficking and having a prohibited weapon, has been released to appear in court September 1. The vehicle has been returned to the owner.
