The winners of this year’s Tely 10 race say strategy plays a big factor in their performance.

Colin Fewer won his 12th Tely 10, crossing the line in under 50 minutes.
Anne Johnston shattered the women’s record, coming in at 54 minutes and 29 seconds. The previous time to beat was 55:34, set by Kate Beazeley in 2016.

Johnston says she put in almost a full year of training for the event, which included running the Boston Marathon earlier this year.
She says in order to succeed, you have to know your limits. In previous years, she pushed herself too hard and paid for it later in the race. She says you need to know how to push yourself far enough to win, but not so far that you beat yourself out.
Fewer says for him, it’s about fine-tuning his run.

He says it is about learning how to better manage the course and your body so that you succeed in all types of conditions.
