Registration for the annual Puffin and Petrel Patrol in Witless Bay is now full.
The initiative, which began in 2004, helps out baby puffins who become lost or disoriented during fledgling season.
The puffins use the moon and stars to navigate the ocean, but artificial lights along the coasts can confuse the birds, leaving them stranded and vulnerable.
The Puffin and Petrel Patrol helps to rescue the lost Puffins.
Although pre-registration to volunteer with this year’s effort is now full, a cancellations list has been started.
Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to email NLPuffinPatrol@cpaws.org.
