A baby beluga is turning heads and causing some concern after showing up in Witless Bay some days ago.
DFO says it is aware of the animal and is monitoring the situation.
Belugas are very sociable and curious, which makes them popular with the public, but also at greater risk of getting injured or killed.
DFO is asking people not to interact with the beluga, something that is prohibited under Marine Mammal Regulations.
People are asked to contact DFO or Crime Stoppers if they witness anyone disturbing marine mammals.
