The search for the body of Isaac Kettle is resuming.
Carol Anne Haley, the MHA for Burin-Grand Bank, posted the update on her Facebook page earlier today.
She says all week long she has been focused on finding a way for the search to continue.
According to Haley, the Paul A. Sacuta will be conducting “a round-the-clock search” over the next few days, and will be departing from St. John’s as soon as possible.
Kettle was one of four men on board the Sarah Anne on Monday. The ship never returned, and the bodies of the three other crew members were discovered in the water by the Canadian Coast Guard the next day.
The search for Kettle was called off earlier this week after 48 hours when it was determined that there was no chance of survival.
Earlier Story:
The family of Isaac Kettle is pleading for the resumption of efforts to recover his body.
The bodies of three other men, Ed, Jody and Scott Norman were recovered from the waters of Placentia Bay within a day of them being reported missing.
The Transportation Safety Board is assessing the circumstances surrounding what may have happened to the Sarah Anne.
Family members tell VOCM News whatever happened, happened quickly as the men whose bodies were recovered were not wearing their survival suits.
Kettle’s sister-in-law, Cheyanne Doyle, says they believe Kettle, who has yet to be found, is still with the vessel.
She says they just want to bring him home.
Doyle says the vessel is estimated to be about 300 to 600 feet below the surface. That’s not a lot when you compare it to the fact that military officials were able to recover the wreckage of a helicopter from the Mediterranean.
The Coast Guard handed the case over to RCMP when they abandoned the search after two days. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say their search and rescue mandate does not extend to the recovery of persons or property when there is no likelihood of finding someone alive.
MHA Joins Calls for Investigation and Resumption of Search
The Tory MHA for Placentia West-Bellevue is calling on the Transportation Safety Board, Transport Canada and RCMP to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the loss of the Sarah Anne and her four-man crew.
Jeff Dwyer wants to see the resumption of efforts to recover the body of Isaac Kettle.
Dwyer says questions remain about what happened to the fishing vessel and its crew.
And recovery of the vessel itself could provide the answers the families are looking for, says Dwyer.
The Transportation Safety Board is gathering information to determine possible next steps.
