A Paradise resident has paid over $2,000 out-of-pocket for repairs to his family home due to what he says is damage caused by a nearby development.
Mike Button lives at the bottom of Sedgewick Street. He and his wife woke up one morning to a tractor on their lawn and a contractor standing with their tree in his hands.
A new development is being built behind Button’s street that will include two cul-de-sacs. He says the first notification that they got was a sign, the next was the arrival of trucks tearing down the trees behind them.
Button was told that the disruption should only last about a week. That was May of 2018, and the work is ongoing.
He has noticed that his property has shifted, causing his lawn to become uneven and causing cracks in the gyproc throughout his house. He says the developers have fixed some of the issues, but he has to pay for some repairs himself.
Button has contacted the town about the damage to his house but hasn’t found them to be helpful. He says the town suggested he contact a lawyer or make a claim for the damage to his property through his insurance.
His beef isn’t with the developers, but with the town and lack of communication with residents. He would like to see an advocate that could liaise with the town, the developer and residents.
