A 25-year-old woman is dead following an incident in Flatrock yesterday afternoon.
The RNC, metro area fire departments, and paramedics responded after the woman found herself in trouble in a swimming area off Hickey’s Lane on the Stiles Cove path.
Fire and ambulance crews located the woman and removed her from the water but she was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly afterward.
Flatrock mayor Darrin Thorne says the area is very dangerous. He says the town does not condone swimming—signage in the area makes that clear.
Thorne says heavy rainfall in the area early this week caused the river to go “mad.” A young boy drowned in the area in 2017 after similar conditions.
Thorne is asking anyone who is not familiar with the area to stay away.
