It’s been 23 days with no new cases of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador, however there was one positive test recorded yesterday.
The result was from an asymptomatic employee at Eastern Health who had COVID-19 in the past and had recovered.
The test was done as part of a screening protocol and not because the person reported symptoms.
Public Health evidence indicates that it is not a new case of COVID-19, as the test is good at detecting the genetic material of the virus that may present, even if the virus can no longer produce infection.

Health officials say the person’s close contacts – both professionally and personally have been notified and are being tested out of an abundance of caution. Local unions were notified Friday night.
Because this is not considered a new or active case, all numbers related to COVID-19 in the province remain the same. To date, 15,800 people have been tested.
