The Marystown Volunteer Fire Department battled their third fire in three days this morning.
The first two were vehicle fires. The third was a house fire that started at around 7 a.m. Saturday Morning on Ville Marie Drive and caused extensive damage to the bungalow.
Wayde Clarke, Captain with the Marystown Volunteer Fire Department was the officer in charge when the call came in. Clarke says that when they arrived there was heavy smoke and fire extending through the roof of the bungalow.
Also on the scene were members of the Burin volunteer fire department, RCMP, Marystown Ambulance and Newfoundland Power.
He says it was a hot day and members of the community showed up with refreshments for the firefighters.
He says they needed to be hydrated and someone thought of that, he says thank you to those people. Clarke says the Marystown Ambulance had a water bucket on scene with cloths soaking. They were keeping an eye on the firefighters to make sure they were kept hydrated and there wasn’t any heat exhaustion or heat injuries.
Captain Clarke says there were no injuries but the house did suffer fire, smoke and water damage.
