A protest continues at the ferry terminal in Blanc Sablon, Quebec.
Residents, many of whom have property in neighbouring Labrador, are not part of the Atlantic Bubble.
Blanc Sablon Mayor Wanda Beaudoin, says the residents of Quebec’s lower north shore have more connections to Newfoundland and Labrador than they do to Quebec.
She says the residents from Blanc Sablon to Old Fort are relatively isolated and don’t have road access to larger Quebec centres, but do have access to the Labrador Highway.
Many residents of Blanc Sablon vacation and have recreational properties in Newfoundland and Labrador – not to mention their reliance on things like eye appointments and other services in this province.
She says residents have sought travel exemptions from the Newfoundland and Labrador government, but the process has been very slow.
Beaudoin believes that the volume of exemption requests has resulted in a lengthy wait for local residents who want to travel to Labrador for needed services.
The ferry has been crossing but with some interruptions.
