The premier says Newfoundland and Labrador got its fair share out of the federal-provincial $19-billion re-start program. The bulk of the money is based on per capita numbers while about 40 per cent is based on need.
It’s a seven-tier plan designed to help provinces with some of the expenses being incurred by COVID-19 in areas such as daycare, public transit, PPE and essential workers, vulnerable population, contact tracing and municipalities.
The province signed an agreement with Ottawa a couple of months ago with an “affordable” daycare the objective. Newfoundland and Labrador is not there yet, but the premier hopes to see daycare become affordable for more families.
He believes there is room for that to happen and thinks it will be a priority moving forward for the new Liberal government.
