It’s a go for the 201st Royal St. John’s Regatta.
The banks of Quidi Vidi are packed with concessions and the new winner’s circle unveiled yesterday is set to receive it’s first ever champion team.
VOCM’s Brian Madore was lakeside for the go-no go announcement, he said it was about as good a lake as you could imagine.

Regatta VP Bradley Power confirmed that the races would go ahead this morning after a very short deliberation. He says it was unanimous.
The gun goes off at 7:20 this morning at the Royal St. John’s Regatta with the first senior female race of the day.
You can find the schedule and scores at the VOCM Regatta results page.

One of the men’s crews is going for the VOCM Triple Crown of Rowing.
Belfor of Placentia won both the Placentia and Harbour Grace Regattas but they were second in the time trials for St. John’s.
Fine Strokes Plaster and Painting crossed the finish line at Quidi Vidi Lake almost nine seconds sooner than did Belfor.
Fine Strokes, comprised mainly of rowers from Outer Cove, did not enter the first two regattas.
On the women’s side, Hyflodraulic Ltd. set records in both Placentia and Harbour Grace but the Cahill (Kall) Group turned the tables on them in the championship race at Lady Lake so there will be no triple crown winner in their category.
The two-hour lunch break has been restored this year as the number of crews is back to recent historic levels following the record 200th anniversary last year.
The championship rows, live on VOCM, go at 6:30 and 7:00 this evening.
