Residents of Quebec’s Lower North Shore are no further ahead today in their quest to move about more freely in Newfoundland and Labrador.
They do have some mobility freedom in southern Labrador but are not permitted to go to Newfoundland, even though some have property on the island.
Some residents of Blanc Sablon disrupted the Labrador ferry between their town and St. Barbe a couple of weeks ago to make their point, but the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador still refuses them entry.

Premier Dwight Ball is not prepared to grant exceptions for some and not others.
Ball says, at this time, those living in Blanc Sablon can only move through neighbouring communities right now.
Ball says if they opened up the entire province to those on the Quebec border without self-isolation requirements, they would have to do the same for those living in Alberta.
Ball says the residents that live in the area can apply for a public exemption to come into the province for work and health care services.
A letter was reportedly sent to the Chief Medical Officer of Health’s office last week requesting less restrictive access to Newfoundland and Labrador. Dr. Janice Fitzgerald has confirmed that she has not yet read the letter.
