The Mayor of Wabana says a lack of communication is not helping matters when it comes to the Bell Island ferry service.
Besides mechanical issues with their ferries, Mayor Gary Gosine says mismanagement and the inconsistent schedules are making transportation difficult.
Gosine says the town has held an emergency meeting on the topic, and they are setting up a meeting with the transportation minister as well.
He says their long-term goal is to attract residents to the island, but the transportation issues keep arising. Gosine says some people have been forced to stay in St. John’s because they could not get on the boat.
Gosine says the island needs to bring the issues up so that they can get the service back to what it should be, allowing younger generations to move to the island still have a seamless commute to St. John’s.
