The fire hazard rating on the province’s west coast is high, and that’s being coupled with heat warnings in the Corner Brook and Gros Morne areas. As such, the Corner Brook Fire Department is advising using extra caution when enjoying recreational fires.
The department says approved backyard fire pits are allowed, but the burning of yard waste is not. As well, permit burning is suspended in Corner Brook until further notice.
When enjoying a fire, residents are asked to keep wind speed and direction in mind, to never leave a fire unattended, to keep a hose hooked up and nearby, and to douse the fire with water when done.
To report a fire or unauthorized burning, residents are asked to call 911.
The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
