One of the many charitable organizations having a tough time wading through the pandemic says it’s more important than ever that people come together.
The Newfoundland and Labrador branch of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is holding its 25th annual Gutsy Walk this month—but, like many other events, it will be a virtual affair.
Karen Lacey, the development coordinator with the organization, says about 5,000 people in Newfoundland and Labrador have Crohn’s or Colitis. She says anyone wishing to take part can register online, collect sponsors or make a donation, then walk anywhere they choose.
Lacey says they are now noticing that children are being diagnosed with the disease in greater numbers. She says people who suffer from Crohn’s/Colitis sometimes have a stigma, and look for support from the community.
The virtual walk takes place Sunday, August 23. For more information visit www.gutsywalk.ca
