A vet who works in emergency veterinary care says fatigue was a common ailment among dogs brought in early in the pandemic.
The reason? Bored owners were taking their pets out more frequently for walks.
Dr. Maggie Brown-Bury says early on, she was hearing stories from owners worried about their lethargic pets, only to find out the dogs were probably exhausted.
Some clients who were stuck at home told her that they were taking their dogs on three two-hour walks a day. That’s a “huge increase” from the one 15-minute walk the dog might have been previously used to.
Other COVID-related emergencies involved an increase in the number of dogs suffering from poisoning due to gobbling up chocolate or grapes that had fallen on the floor.
