Police were contacted in March after a resident discovered a number of unauthorized transactions on their bank statement.

The victim also noted that their bank card was missing.

RCMP have released surveillance images of a suspect in the investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact them.

NL Hydro entered into the power agreement with Corner Brook Pulp and Paper late last year, agreeing to buy 140,000 megawatt hours of power from the company at a reduced rate of $187 per hour.

The agreement, which was scheduled to come to an end in June, has been extended to June 30th, 2027.  NL Hydro will buy up to 280,00 megawatt hours of power at $187 per megawatt hour.

The extension will allow the provincial government to review and consider Kruger’s proposed $700 million revitalization plan for Corner Brook Pulp and Paper.

RNC say the fire occurred on Patrick Street around 1:15 this morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The foundation is providing a total of $675,000 over three years to support expanded programming for young resettled refugees whose education has been interrupted for a variety of reasons including conflict.

CEO of Sharing Our Cultures Lloydetta Quaicoe told VOCM Open Line with guest host Darren Bent the money goes toward the BOOST program used to help young people between the ages of 15 and 21 to complete their high school diploma.

Quaicoe says oftentimes the students need extra time and support than what the usual K-12 system can offer.

She says the program concentrates on Math, English, Science and Social Studies. “We have 35 teachers who will teach them Monday through Thursday and then on Fridays they will have experiential learning where they will go on educational tours.”

The program runs through to August 21st.

The issue occurred on Sunday evening. Technicians identified the problem and are in the process of making repairs.

Marine Atlantic says it is hopeful that the Blue Puttees will be able to return to service later today.

The shoreline drops off dramatically at St. Vincent’s Beach, allowing feeding whales to get within feet of spectators.

That’s also a concern for local residents who fear visitors may not know how steeply the beach drops off, and how unpredictable the waves and tide are.

Orla Moylan Hegarty of the St. Vincent’s St. Stephen’s Peter’s River Facebook group says the ocean is something to be respected.

“The ocean is very unpredictable” she says. “A lot of people who are visiting have never been around an ocean like this” says Moylan Hegarty, and she wants to make sure visitors understand the dangers while enjoying the local spectacle.

An employee arriving for work this morning noticed that the business had been broken into and that a quantity of cash and supplies were taken.

Also missing was a Ford delivery truck.

The yellow truck is emblazoned with the Home Hardware logo, with the Grand Bank phone number and licence plate CE2 729.

RCMP have received a report indicating that the truck may have been spotted travelling westbound on the Trans Canada heading toward Stephenvillle.

Area MHA Fred Hutton says the $1 million project could result in some traffic diversions in getting on and off the ferries over the next few days.

Crews are on site to help and commuters are being reminded to use caution and be courteous.

Hutton says the new terminal and waiting room, which are expected to be completed this fall, will be fully accessible.

Tournament Chair and local MP Paul Connors says the event has been held in memory of six year old Sam Porter who passed away at a swimming hole in Seal Cove back in 2022.

He told VOCM Open Line with guest host Darrin Bent that people are even starting to plan their summer vacations around the annual fundraiser.

He describes it as a competitive event, but with an atmosphere of friendship, support and community. “It’s something you can feel…it’s really impossible to try to put it into words.”

The event raised money for Sammy’s Climb Higher Foundation allowing children to access a variety of sporting activities, despite the cost.

It appears as though a truck carrying dry concrete mix lost some of its load.

The highway was temporarily closed while officials worked to clear the debris.

It has since reopened to traffic.

The Trans Canada Highway eastbound has been closed near Steady Brook due to a major spill across a 2 km stretch of highway.

Traffic is being re-routed through Marble Drive as officials work to clean up dried concrete spilled on the road.

Drivers are being asked to use caution and follow the director of first responders at the site.
