The Shipwreck Preservation Society is working with the South West Coast Historical Society in Port aux Basques to document one of the most tragic losses in Newfoundland marine history.
The passenger ferry Caribou was sunk in the Cabot Strait by a German U-Boat in October of 1942, claiming 137 innocent lives.
Neil Burgess, a diver and member of the Shipwreck Preservation Society, says the vessel sank in waters so deep, she has never been located.
He says the two groups are now working together to develop a new web site to document the tragic loss.
Burgess says finding the wreck would have to be done with the use of a Remotely Operated Vehicle.
