Police have released more information about a dangerous situation that unfolded along the Bay d’Espoir Highway on Thursday night.
Police were first called to the scene around 7 p.m. to reports that a transport truck was on fire near Pool’s Cove Junction.
It was later determined that a large number of potentially combustible oxygen tanks were on board the vehicle.
Due to the potential dangers involved, crews couldn’t immediately get close enough to the vehicle to put out the blaze.
However, the fire was contained several hours later at around 11 p.m. The driver escaped without injury.
