The Canadian Mental Health Association – Newfoundland and Labrador’s Radiothon for Mental Health is happening today on VOCM.
The half-day broadcast will hear from mental health professionals and service users and listen to stories about community connections and interviews—all in support of mental health.
RNC Constable Krista Fagan is the handler of the department’s first police support dog, Stella. Stella’s role is to help in post-traumatic incidences to calm the victims down when it’s safe to do so—or to lend a paw during court testimony.
The pair are often seen in the community visiting workplaces and community groups when safe to do so, providing mental health support, and continuing the conversation.
Constable Fagan says Stella lights up the room everywhere she goes. She says the positive effects she brought to the community during such a trying time were amazing to watch.
Fagan commends the Mental Health Association of Newfoundland and Labrador for their work and what she calls “phenomenal programs.”
The CMHA-NL Radiothon for Mental Health asks VOCM listeners for donations. The organization says the money raised will help CMHA-NL continue to support communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.
The radiothon goes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
