A man and a woman arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Mount Pearl yesterday afternoon will remain in custody for now.
37-year-old Richard Driscoll and 33-year-old Jessica Driscoll were arrested at a house on Empire Avenue shortly after the robbery at Needs Convenience on Barbour Drive. The relationship between the pair is not clear.
They face charges of armed robbery, fleeing police, and dangerous driving.
Police say a woman armed with a knife demanded cash and cigarettes from the clerk at Needs, then sped away in a car driven by a man.
Officers found and pursued the vehicle to number 374 Empire Avenue where the driver fled on foot before being tracked by a police dog and eventually taken into custody. The woman was also arrested in the area. That address is well known to police who’ve responded there before with guns drawn.
Driscoll is no stranger to the courts, having previously been charged with firearms, robbery, and home invasion offenses.
Both will remain in custody until their next court dates next week.
