A donation has been made to Daffodil Place in the memory of a generous donor.
The Daffodil Place was presented with a $10,000 cheque yesterday in honour of Richard Dennis, the dealer principle of Dennis GM in Corner Brook, who passed away at the age of 55 after a battle with cancer.
During the construction of Daffodil Place, Dennis donated $50,000 to the cause.
A suite was named “Dennis’s Den” to mark the contribution.
Upon his passing 15 years later, Dennis’s former high school class came together with $5,000 for the cause, with his family matching the donation for a total of $10,000, presented by his classmate and brother-in-law Peter Burt, and his sons Joseph and Noah.
Burt says Dennis was a generous man focused on community, family and uplifting others.
He says Dennis was very well-liked all throughout his life and enjoyed giving back to the community, often anonymously.
He says they thought Daffodil Place was a great fit for the donation.
Director of Revenue Development with the Canadian Cancer Society, Al Pelley says the donation will cover the cost of 100 nights for a cancer patient and their caregiver.
He says they charge people only $50 a night for accommodations, meals, and entertainment, but it actually costs them around $120 a night.
He says a donation like this will subsidize that and help keep costs down.
