It’s going to be a windy day right across the island on Wednesday as a system from Labrador moves in while some places are in for a lot of rain and others lots of freezing rain.
The south coast gets heavy rain, 40-70 mm, while the west coast and Northern Peninsula could see 15-20 mm of freezing rain, lasting between four and eight hours.
Veronica Sullivan, a meteorologist at the Gander Weather Office, says for the south and west coast the freezing rain will be inland and over higher terrain. While it could last for several hours, she says for the most part it won’t affect places where people live.
However, Sullivan says it will be a different story on the Northern Peninsula.
She says the St. Anthony area could be in for a prolonged period of freezing rain, which will last for most of the day on Wednesday. She says that, combined with strong winds could result in power outages.
