Government officials are asking cabin owners in central Newfoundland to stay off forest roads to check on their properties while officials continue to monitor and address forest fires in the region.
The States of Emergency set up in the central and Connaigre Peninsula areas were officially lifted as of midnight last night.
Forestry Minister Derrick Bragg says while conditions have improved, smouldering fires could flare up again at any time.
Bragg says woods roads in the area must remain open for ground crews, but they’re asking residents and property owners not to enter the area.
He says it was easier to monitor the woods roads when the Bay d’Espoir Highway was closed, but now that the main highway has been reopened, they have police and others monitoring the access points to make sure people “stay away.”
