In the last month the City of St. John’s has spent over $1.3-million on emergency repairs to its equipment.
And even though that’s a big price tag, the city assures the additional costs will not affect budgeting.
The city recently approved a $385,000 bid for repairs to a filter at the Bay Bulls Big Pond Water Treatment Plant. And last month the city approved a $935,000 bid for repairs to the HVAC system at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre.
Dave Lane is council’s lead on finance and administration. He says the city has reserved budgets for unexpected repairs that need to be done and ensures they are well prepared.
However, if money does run low, they have other avenues they can take.
They will take money from other budgets or delay applicable projects to free up the money.
