Banks are moving more and more services online, gradually eliminating the use of the familiar teller at the counter.
Some local banks have already made the shift, causing concern among those who rely on tellers for business they’d rather not do online.
Local tech blogger Kevin Andrews says it’s part of a cashless banking trend that started in Europe and has ramped up since the pandemic.
He says the idea of cashless banks originated in Sweden where 55 per cent of bank branches are cashless, and some don’t even have ATMs where people can withdraw paper money.
Andrews says that cashless trend is now being adopted across the country.
