Trade and energy were top of mind as eastern Canadian premiers and northeast U.S. governors met in Boston yesterday.
The themes among the leaders, regardless of which side of the border they were from, were the same—that the relationship between both countries is strong, and more needs to be done to foster those positive trade relationships.
NL Premier John Hogan participated in a panel discussion led by American banker and former Vice Chair of the Bank of America, Anne Fenucane.
He spoke to continued cross-border energy collaboration between the two countries.
Hogan acknowledged references to Quebec’s neighbours sending power down through Quebec and into New England, to which Hogan was quick to point out, that power actually comes from the Churchill River in Labrador. He highlighted the MOU with Hydro Quebec to nearly double production on the Churchill River from 5,000 MW to 9,500 MW.
Hogan also raised the province’s wind and natural gas potential.
Neighbors, allies, trading partners and friends 🇺🇸🇨🇦
All committed to building a stronger future for families and businesses — in both our countries. pic.twitter.com/orbmxATEJP
