The Mayor of Labrador City has resigned his position.

The town a confirmed the news on Facebook Wednesday night.

Wayne Button tweeted out the news earlier in the evening, indicating that the decision was a difficult one, and asked that members of the public and the media respect his privacy. No reason was given in either the town’s notice, or Button’s tweet.

Button says he will continue to operate his Chiropractic business, and will stay on as Chair of the Labrador Grenfell Health Board.

The Labrador City town council had agreed earlier this month to hold a plebiscite on the topic of amalgamation with nearby Wabush in September.
