A snowmobiler on the province’s west coast ran into some trouble over the weekend after his machine fell into a sinkhole.
The man’s ordeal was outlined on the Western Sno-Riders Facebook page. The snowmobile rider suffered a broken arm after his machine fell into the sinkhole some distance from Hind’s Pond and was unable to drive his machine out.
Donnie O’Keefe, one of a separate group of snowmobilers who were able to help Ben Fitzgerald, warned on the group that cellphone service is spotty in the area. A helicopter was called to airlift the man out and get him medical treatment. Fitzgerald’s wife Tara says he husband is doing well, and posted her thanks to all those who helped him out.
