Students this week in the metro area bared their souls in poignant, funny, often emotional accounts of some of their defining moments.
On Tuesday the Learning Partnership presented the winning essays from the Turning Points program.
It was an honour to host @TLPCanada's #TurningPoints essay presentation today!
These students are all incredible, brave writers. Hopefully I'll work with a few of you at @VOCMNEWS someday! pic.twitter.com/3GwQLztyym

It’s supported in part by VOCM Cares, and encourages students to write about important, personal ‘turning point’ moments in their lives. The winning essays from the Grade 7 and Grade 11 categories covered topics ranging from addiction, the mourning of lost loved ones, the joy of travel, or just the thrill of quitting the swim team.
Gonzaga student Maria Baker wrote an essay called ‘Skin’, about a series of surgeries she had to go through beginning when she was seven.
She says it was easy to write, as it was a very difficult time in her life, and she, like the others entrants, wanted to write about something that was special to them.
Over 150 students submitted essays in the Avalon region. The winners will be collected in an anthology published by the Learning Partnership.
