Two people are safe, and a cat escaped without harm, following a fire in the capital city on Friday.
Firefighters arrived at a home on the Southside Road last night to find thick smoke drifting from the basement.
Acting Platoon Chief Adrian St. Croix says firefighters were relieved to find both residents, a man and a woman, safely outside the home.
They cleared a path inside the house, allowing the family’s cat to flee to the safety of the outdoors.
St. Croix says fire damage was limited to a portion of the basement.
There were no injuries. However, the two residents had to find alternate accommodations as residual smoke made it unsafe to return to the house for the night.
