The Green Party candidate for Avalon is weighing in on a bullying incident caught on video outside Carbonear Collegiate.

Police received a complaint after the video started circulating showing a group of students apparently egging on two young men in a confrontation.

Greg Malone, who is gay, says he knows what he went through, and as the father of a son who isn’t gay but was picked on in school, the system hasn’t always had the right response to such incidents.

He says when he approached the vice principal of his son’s school about the bullying that had occurred, the question he was asked was what did your son do to aggravate those picking on him?

Malone says the schools couldn’t ensure a safe place for students because the teachers themselves were afraid of the bullies.
