A group gathered outside Country Ribbon on White Hills Road this afternoon to hold a vigil for the thousands of chickens in the facility.
St. John’s Farm Animal Save is the local chapter of the global Animal Save movement.
Murray Noseworthy says the vigil was for the 50,000 chickens that are slaughtered every day. He says it’s important to raise awareness that chickens—just like cats and dogs—are sentient.
Ultimately, Noseworthy says they would like to see animal agriculture banned. They want to see consumers stop eating animals, as they say it’s the only way to stop cruelty.
Noseworthy says everyone will state they’re against cruelty, but then sit down and eat chickens, cows and pigs—which they see as hypocritical.
When they first started the movement a few years ago, Noseworthy says there was not a lot of support—seeing more fingers than thumbs.
However, he says these days they are seeing more thumbs up, and lots of support.
