A local says environmental consultant says all the ships at sea are having a much bigger impact than we realize on the ocean ecosystem.
Ashley Noseworthy of Edgewise NL says automatic identification systems on vessels allow us to see roughly how many ships are at sea at any given time, and it paints a picture of a very busy ocean.
She says it raises concerns of the impact the engine noise alone from those tens of thousands of vessels is having on the marine environment.
Fortunately, Noseworthy says designs and technology are already on the board for quiet ships that have less impact.
Have you ever given any thought to how many vessels are active on the world’s oceans at one time? Take a look at the screenshot we grabbed today from https://t.co/VoE71jFYvp . pic.twitter.com/rUCbl23ybN
