The Janeway is about to get a brand new piece of equipment that will help soon-to-be mothers with high-risk pregnancies, thanks to a generous donation.
The Operating Engineers Local 904 made a $1-million donation to the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre through their membership fund.

That money will be used to buy the province’s first Central Monitoring System, which will oversee pregnant women throughout the birthing process to ensure both mother and child are healthy.
Co-clinical Chief of the Children’s and Women’s Health Program, Dr. Robert Kennedy says this fetal monitoring system is important to busy units—like the one at the Janeway.

Kennedy says each monitor will send data to a central location, where doctors, nurses and residents will be able to view that information at the same time. He says it’s important to have a global view of the maternity ward.
