He won’t say we’re in a crisis situation but we’re on the brink.
NAPE President Jerry Earle is talking about the situation facing long-term care in the province.
The union president says there is a “significant” shortage of staff in our long-term care facilities with a pronounced shortage of LPNs and PCAs.
NAPE held public demonstrations outside a number of long-term care facilities in the province over the fall to bring attention to the situation.
Earle says it needs to be addressed.
He says a joint committee has been formed and meetings are taking place.
Earle indicates similar staffing issues can be seen in other professions including paramedics and student assistants.
