The FFAW is dismayed by government regulations that allow seismic and oil and gas exploration to take place in designated marine refuges.
The refuges are closed to fishing to protect marine habitat and help conserve spawning grounds, yet the oil and gas industry is permitted to carry out work in those same areas.
That, according to FFAW President Keith Sullivan, isn’t right.
Sullivan says the wild fishery is sustainable and valuable to the province, presenting us with great opportunities, yet it is taking a back seat to oil and gas.
