Should the power go, the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is reminding residents not to use a generator or other combustion engine in an enclosed space.
Generators should only be used outside and in a well-ventilated area.
Carbon monoxide is absorbed into the bloodstream up to 230 times faster than oxygen, it kills silently. Be aware during power outages! Using gasoline generators inside is dangerous. Use them outside only and not near opening into your home! #nlwx #nlblizzard2020 #nlstorm pic.twitter.com/Ys3FXYUBTp

Carbon monoxide is odourless. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, dizziness, weakness, vomiting, chest pain and confusion.
Heavy exposure can lead to loss of consciousness or death.
The Department says if carbon monoxide exposure is suspected, get to some fresh air and contact emergency officials.
