Thousands of students returned to class this morning after an extended break due to the recent State of Emergency.
NLTA President Dean Ingram says teachers were eager to get back and he agrees with the phased-in approach to the reopening of schools.
Given the circumstances, modifications had to be made and he agrees with that.
As for the decision not to extend the school year due to time lost, Ingram says there are ways to make up classroom instruction.
He says you needn’t look any further than Hurricane Igor which affected a number of areas of the province for a longer period of time. At that time the school year was salvaged without having to extend the year.
