The town of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove is taking measures to ensure another tragedy does not take place at Middle Cove beach.
Yesterday the town put out an advisory asking residents to stay away from the famed “ice wall” on the beach for fear of falling ice. As well, signs have been erected to warn beach goers about the dangers of the area.
Last year, a 7-year-old boy was hospitalized with severe injuries after being hit by a chunk of falling ice at the beach.
Mayor Bert Hickey says in addition to that they have had “many near misses” and wants everyone to heed the warnings.
He wants everyone to stay very far back from the wall because the ice hanging from the cliff if very dangerous.
