The news that Cineplex may soon be serving alcohol at its theatres in St. john’s and Mount Pearl has sparked some lively comments online, but the company says they are still far from the end of the process and the public will have more opportunities to voice their opinions.
On Monday, St. John’s city council gave the green light to the company to serve alcoholic beverages at their Avalon Mall location, a similar approval was given by Mount Pearl for the Mount Pearl Square location the week before.
In an email statement to VOCM News, Cineplex says the process is far from over. The NLC still needs to conduct a review of their liquor license application, which includes opportunities for public input.
If given approval, the theatres in this province will join 88 other locations across the country that serve alcohol.
The company says only “trained and certified cast members” will be serving the drinks, which will be canned beer, cider and wine. Patrons will be allowed to drink the beverages in any of the auditoriums.
