The donation of a new boat will help the Clean Harbour Initiative in ridding the water in and around the the province of trash.
The 26-foot fiberglass boat was donated by the family of Lindsay Petten, a fellow diver, fishermen and environmentalist who lost his life during a scuba diving accident in the waters off Bareneed just before Christmas last year.
Petten’s son Nick said his father wanted to make a donation to the nonprofit, and after Shawn Bath of Clean Harbour Initiative asked about the boat over a year ago, it was something Bath thinks must have stuck with them.
He says the boat is a game changer. It’s one of the biggest items they need for the clean-up and had they tried to purchase one on their own, it might have taken a year or two.
