The Alliance for the Control of Tobacco (ACT) today launched a new campaign about the harms and risks associated with vaping.
The campaign is called “The New Look of Nicotine Addiction”.
Recent data from a 2018-19 Canadian Student Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Survey indicate that vaping among young people in Newfoundland and Labrador is reaching a crisis level.
47% of students in grades 7-12 have tried vaping, with 30% using vapes in the last 30 days.
The campaign will provide info about vaping products, including harmful chemicals and the many different devices.
It will be rolled out on social media today, and in the coming days online and on billboards.
The minister of Children, Seniors and Social Devlopment, Lisa Dempster, announced an additional $75,000 from government for ACT to enhance the frequency and duration of the campaign to reach more parents and other adults.
