St. John’s City Councillor Dave Lane is stepping down from his role by the end of the year.

In a Facebook post, Lane says with the arrival of his second child, his family will be moving to a new home in Torbay.

Lane says because he will be moving from St. John’s once the house is ready, he has made the decision to end his role on Council by the end of 2020.

With this timeline, Lane says there will be no need for a costly and distracting byelection. He will continue in his role for the next several months working on projects like the budget, bike plan, improvements to public transit and better support for local business.

Lane says it’s a difficult move, but he believes it’s the right decision for both residents and his family.
