Hundreds of people bundled up this afternoon to raise money and reduce stigma for at-risk youth.
The Coldest Night of the Year is a family-friendly walk through the capital city’s downtown to bring attention to homeless and at-risk youth in the province.
Colton Purchase says it is energizing to see so many people supporting a great cause.
Purchase runs the Youth Leadership Council with Choices for Youth. He says his passion comes from his own lived experience with homelessness.
The first step is to normalize the conversation around homelessness say Purchase. He says it helps remove the stigma that homelessness means you fit into a certain category of people.
Purchase says anyone one of us can become homeless as it is a systemic problem.
The Youth Leadership Council is hosting Youth for Youth Voice at Gower Street United Church on Febuary 29th from 10 – 4 p.m.
