A man who lost his son to suicide several years ago is wondering how Premier Dwight Ball’s resignation will affect a proposed inquiry into Indigenous children in care.
Simeon Tshakapesh lost his son, Thunderheart, to suicide in 2017 at the age of 16.
He accuses the province of dragging their heels in getting an inquiry put together, and wonders how Ball’s resignation will factor into the situation.
Tshakapesh says what is holding the process up is the inability to find a commissioner to preside over the hearings.
He notes he has sent emails to the Grand Chiefs and Band Chiefs to make some noise about the situation, which he claims has been going on for too long.
Tshakapesh isn’t ruling out coming to St. John’s and demanding answers. He says the pain is profound and that he wants answers.
