The Canadian Cancer Society has released a video urging governments to increase the minimum age for e-cigarettes and tobacco to 21 to address the vaping “epidemic” among teens.
The video includes testimonials from students and some statistics about vaping among young people.
Public Issues Coordinator with the Canadian Cancer Society in Newfoundland and Labrador, Amanda Mansfield says vaping rates in this province are reaching epidemic levels and they need government to take strong action by passing measures designed to reduce vaping rates among young people.
A 2019 study led by Professor David Hammond of the University of Waterloo found that between 2017 and 2018 vaping rates increased 75 per cent among people 16 to 19 years of age.
