Residents of a downtown neighborhood are getting their wish to have their voices heard on an application that has sparked a lot of public discussion.
Brewdock Bar and Eatery has submitted an application to the City of St. John’s to operate their business, as well as an outdoor lounge area, at 83 Duckworth Street.

A number of concerns have been raised about the proposal, and a petition was recently submitted to city council from residents outlining issues about increased noise from the outdoor area and parking concerns.
As well, Ward Councillor Hope Jamieson notes the building’s former occupants were the “source of some difficulty in the neighbourhood,” leaving many uneasy about new tenants.

The residents requested a public meeting with the developer, and while that wasn’t approved the application was deferred so Jamieson could sit down with all parties to get everyone’s voices heard.
Jamieson says she’s pleased with the outcome. Residents will get the chance to speak with the developer, and as long as that happens she isn’t concerned about how it takes place.
